What Laundry and Marketing Have in Common?

March 31st, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. You can also sign up for my extremely popular FREE newsletter by clicking HERE. Thanks for visiting!

I suppose that when we all first took a peek at internet marketing, we had a visions of racey cars, endless nights at the pub with your buddies, sleeping in (!) with no more alarms clocks and someone yanking your chain.

NO more mundane hours from 9 - 5.  FREE TIME, here I come!

It wasn’t long into the business of internet marketing that I realized that it isn’t all parties and easy money.

Nope.  Not only does this business often not get you rich quick, Internet Marketing has it’s “laundry” type tasks.  You know, the ones that you have to drag yourself through day after day.

For me it is coming up with articles for ezine directories, installing scripts, creating catchy squeeze pages, stuff like that.

Those who know me know I do like to write and teach but in order to really promote my internet marketing products, I knew from experience that the more articles I can get out there, the more exposure my sites get AND the more money I make!

In the beginning I did all my article writing, for example.

I was too cheap to pay anyone at the time and frankly hadn’t made enough from my niches to justify it.  I would be up all hours creating content for my business niches often times wondering if it was all worth it.

Especially when I knew I faced a long day in school the next day!

But the time came last summer when things really took off for me.  It’s like I’d done my due diligence and put in my time and the money started seriously flowing in.

All that writing of articles and visiting forums and “stumbling” and “digging” began to pay off big time!

Do I still do the “laundry” tasks?  Only when I want to now.

It’s kind of like hiring a housekeeper to do your laundry.  Now I can outsource or staff it out.  I still love to write articles but now I don’t have to.

I’m no one special of course and you could do the same.

I just put in the time to build my business and worked hours late into the night when my buddies were messing around or sleeping.  Of course I wanted to be out with them or sleeping too.

But I wanted my freedom even more!

So here I am, messing around, doing what I want on my own time, sleeping, paying someone else to do the “laundry” while my buddies do their 9 - 5 and still have their laundry to do when they get home.

Be willing to give up all those fun nights out for a while….well, most of them….cripes, you got to have some fun, right?.

Pay your dues when everyone else is watching football and it will pay off.  Roll up your sleeves and “do your laundry” today…and then soon I’ll see you on the beaches!

Free Traffic On Tap?

March 30th, 2008

I’ve been playing around with this blog over the last few days in an effort to get a bit more traffic.

Today I logged into Google Analytics and was shocked at just how much traffic my experiments had resulted in.

According to Alexa the rank for this blog yesterday was 41,963…which is an absolutely massive increase on my previous traffic.

And the best part is that I haven’t had to do any extra work to achieve this traffic increase. In fact I haven’t really had to do any work at all!

While I type this post a mixture of contractors and Interns are promoting my business based on video procedures that I created last week.

It’s not all about traffic of course, and it’s important to remember that this is just part of the equation.

So what’s my strategy? It’s simple…

I want to create systems that lead to traffic flowing through this blog without my input. And the more visitors that land here, the more people I can impress with the free content on this blog.

And if I increase the number of people who enjoy my free content then I also increase my number of sales too.

Want to know how? Well I simply write informative articles that provide real value while also mentioning my products and services.

For example I might say to check out the best secret mentoring forum online then check out the link below

http://www.StandingStartProfits.com

Or I might say to discover how to profit wildly from the smallest of email lists then check out Project New Web now.

http://www.ProjectNewWeb.com

You see, even though I’ve had a nice traffic explosion to this blog I’m not just interested in an increase in visitors.

I want….

1) A massive traffic explosion without the need for any extra work: I want systems that ratchet up my traffic daily while I enjoy life or work on other areas of my business.

2) An increase in conversions and sales: Traffic is only one half of the puzzle so I also want more subscribers and more sales too.

What will my traffic rank be in one month? I have no idea and I don’t really care.

What I’m really interested in is the value I provide, the sales I make, and the level of automation needed to achieve the results.

Are you interested in a breakdown of how I’ve managed to increase the traffic to this blog without any extra work?

Let me know below and I’ll blog about this during the week….

Free Internet Business Intern Update

March 29th, 2008

A few days ago I opened up a free Internet business intern program and the response was overwhelming.

Less than 4 hours after opening up this program I removed the link due to so many people joining in a short space of time.

Why did I do that? It’s simple…

This is a new program and I wanted to limit the numbers who joined in the first week so that I could make sure the system was running 100% smoothly.

So far everything is going VERY well indeed and the feedback has been incredible.

If you missed out on the free intern program the first time then don’t panic!

Because the prorgam is going so well I’ve decided to open this up again late next week…..so make sure you keep checking back to the blog for the details.

If you want to receive free training on how to run a profitable Internet business then this is the program for you.

The link will be be republished in a few days and I look forward to working with you in this program!

Make sure you keep checking back….I’m not sure when I’ll reopen the training program but it will certainly be before the end of the week.

Not Just List Building

March 28th, 2008

If you have been around internet marketing for any time at all, you have heard it said that “the money is in the list” and the best marketing tool available for your online success is a responsive opt-in list.

Okay, let me just say here something you’ve heard me say before.

In order to succeed, you must get your reader’s trust and then work very hard to keep it. Losing the trust of your subscribers will certainly doom your business.

Do whatever it takes to keep the trust of your readers.

It’s true that an opt-in list is the most effective asset to your online business.

However, most anyone can have an online business and build a list. The part you want though is a responsive list - wouldn’t you rather have a profitable business?

A responsive subscriber list of people who believe in you will keep profits coming in - and the ultimate goal is to succeed!

Giving people value for their money is my personal goal. I’ll not promote anything or release any product that does not improve the business and even the lives of my subscribers.

The most important part of building an online business is to take action. I’m always moving and searching for ways to add value to my business. It takes a lot of time, energy and not a little bit of money to get the results I have.

I wasn’t just sitting here one day and success arrived. I worked and I continue to work to keep my business growing.

So what is an opt-in list anyway?

An opt-in list is basically a list of names and e-mail addresses that have chosen to receive information from you.

I send my list of subscribers updates about my newsletter, blog and special offers I think may be useful to their own businesses. I can’t stress enough how important it is to always offer something of value when you communicate with your subscribers.

Don’t send promotions to your list that smack of junk in any way.

This is a good way to lose the trust of your subscribers and get some opt-OUT e-mails in your inbox.

If you have been with me awhile, you know I always strive to offer only those things I believe are of the highest quality. I will not sacrifice my business for the sake of a quick profit. It isn’t worth it.

Here are some quick pointers to help build your own responsive list of subscribers:

1. Have a free offer on your site. Give away something of value. This helps build a relationship with your visitors. Visitors can turn into subscribers.

2. When you send an e-mail to your opt-in list, always include a link back to your site or to the free offer. People tend to pass these things along and you can get more visitors by making sure they can find you.

3. Share information, updates and articles with your readers. Again, include your links in the updates.

4. Join relevant forums and start building friendships with the members. Make sure your signature contains links to your site and the free offer. Stay within that forum’s rules and whatever you do, don’t SPAM a forum with offers or affiliate links!

5. The easiest and most important item is to make sure there is an opt-in box or subscribe box on your site. I would advise putting the opt-in box “above the fold” so to speak so it is easily spotted by visitors.

The main thing NOT to do when it comes to your subscribers is send massive amounts of e-mail and bombard them with offers. And if you do? Welll you’ll find yourself again with unsubscribes in your inbox.

Building a responsive list doesn’t mean you’re done.

You then have to maintain a relationship with your subscribers. If you follow these few easy tips, you’ll be able to build that list and things will only get better for your business.

Looking For Desperate Niche Markets?

March 28th, 2008

How desperate are the prospects in your market? It’s an important question but first let me tell you a story…

Last year I was going on holiday to Greece and I was excited. I had my bags packed and I was raring to go.

Yes it was a typical rain soaked Manchester afternoon but I was still wearing my shorts and T-Shirt ready for action…and I only looked just a little bit silly. :)

I had the trip to the airport planned to perfection. Walk to the bus stop. Bus to the train station. Train to the Airport. What could go wrong?

Well everything could go wrong!

I overslept and then I couldn’t find my passport. Worst yet I couldn’t even find the travel tickets or my holiday insurance.

By the time I found what I was looking for the bus had long gone.

Now there’s something you have to know about me. I HATE paying for taxis.

I just consider it a crazy waste of money when you can get public transport or walk.

I never get a taxi anywhere, and I’d much rather get crazy combinations of buses, trains, and trams….which is a bit weird since I value my time so much online.

Did I get a taxi the day I missed my bus? Did I choose to pay £25 in taxi fares so I didn’t miss my holidays?

Cripes yes!

I was deeply desperate and I was willing to pay for a solution.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

I’d normally never pay for a taxi but in this situation my need was so deep that I would have gladly handed them my wallet even if the fee was £250.

And the same principle works online too…

You see, when you find markets full of desperate buyers with deep problems you’ll find that that the process of selling becomes that much easier.

Why? Because people have a desperate need for a solution and so are willing to break out of their comfort zones to get it.

So how do you find desperate markets full of prospects with deep problems that need solving?

Well check out the excellent resource below….

101 Countries And Counting?

March 27th, 2008

Have you installed Google Analytics on your blog yet? If not, why not? It’s 100% free to use and it’s an incredible piece of software.

Once you have it up and running you’ll be amazed at the type of information at your disposal.

For example, I spent some time looking at my blog stats today and noticed that since the start of the year I’ve had visitors from 101 different countries!

Now I don’t know about you, but I find the thought of people in so many different countries reading my content to be pretty inspiring.

For example I had 43 visits from Yemen. 28 from Belarus. 3 from the Cayman Islands. And 1 from Guam.

Wherever you’re visiting from I’d like to say thanks for stopping by!

Don’t hang around and get Google Analytics installed on your blog today. You’ll be amazed at the information that it provides.

Would you like help installing this? Would you like a future blog post to show you exactly how to do this? If so post in the comments below and I’ll see what I can do. :)

Free Video Training That Doesn’t Costs a Cent?

March 27th, 2008

Woud you like to receive over 8 hours of FREE video training that will show you how to build a profitable Internet business without spending a cent?

Well I’ll get to that in a second but first let me tell you a quick story…

As a former high school teacher I discovered a lot of interesting things about the way people learn. Teaching is what I love, and it’s also what I enjoy the most too.

I used to teach Business Studies and Economics and one group of students ALWAYS outperformed the rest of the year group.

They often weren’t the brightest kids and they didn’t always have the best predicted grades.

But the students in this group consistently knocked their target grades out of the park. They over massively over achieved year on year, because of one very simple reason.

Instead of learning out of a textbook everday they also received the opportunity to ‘learn by doing’.

You see, I used to run a Young Enterprise project where a group of students set up and ran their own business, with a small amount of help from me. Last year they set up a company selling luxury cosmetics and they made a killing!

Instead of learning about how to sell from a book they were actually out there trying to get local businessmen to part with their cash.

Instead of learning about the importance of good customer service from a Powerpoint presentation they were actually taking an ear bashing from an elderly customer for not giving correct change.

They still learned from the textbook of course, but the whole process of ‘hands on’ learning in this way allowed them to outperform their peers by leaps and bounds.

Why am I telling you this?

Because I strongly believe in ‘learning by doing’ which is why I’m excited to launch a FREE training Intern program.

What the heck is an intern program? Put simply it’s a free training program where you learn by doing.

Instead of paying to receive the video training, you agree to work on my business for 1-2 hours a day 5 times a week….and in return you get free training that others are charging thousands for.

You can get the full story at the link below

(Link Removed….See Below)

As an Intern for my company you’ll get free video training…and in return you’ll work on my business 5 times per week.

Is this for everyone? Cripes no!

Many people won’t have the time to be an Intern. If that’s you then you’ll receive the opportunity to purchase these training materials and assignments at a later date…it will be my most expensive product by some distance though.

(Current mentoring clients will of course get free access to the Intern videos)

You can click the link below to find out more. Once a certain number of Interns have signed up I’ll remove the link as I want to start small to begin with.

(Link Removed….See Below)

I love teaching and I strongly believe in the principle of learning by doing which is why I’m so excited to be offering this opportunity today.

If you think that this is for you then sign up now and let me know what you think in the comments below! :)

(Please Note: I’ve temporarily removed the signup link for the free Intern program. I had far more people signup in a very short space of time than I expected!

Don’t panic though….I’ll reopen this in the next week sometime so keep checking back to the blog and keep your eyes on your inbox.)

Supply and Demand and the eBay Download Ban

March 26th, 2008

Many readers will know that I’m a former Business Studies and Economics teacher.

Now you don’t need to have an Economics degree from Oxford to know that what happens in a marketplace is determined by two things…. Supply and Demand.

Think about the sale of Apples. What happens one year if the market demand stays the same but there’s a sudden and dramatic shortage of Apples?

Yep the price goes up! A lot!

What’s going to happen to the supply of info products on eBay next week? It’s going to go down dramatically as the ban kicks in.

Can you see where I’m heading with this?

In a few days there will be plenty of hungry crowds looking for info products on eBay, and there’s not going to be a lot to buy. Are you going to be the one to feed them?

Of course, a lot of the demand for ebooks on eBay was driven by other eBayers buying the books to boost their feedback, and to grab hold of MRR products to resell. So there IS going to be a dip in demand.

But the people who bought ebooks for the information inside are still going to be hungry….except there’s not going to be anything to eat!

Want to know how to get rich in any market? You simply find a starving crown and feed them until they’re full.

Turning digital products physical has HUGE benefits anyway, but imagine how nice it will feel to be selling ebooks on CD while having a big chunk of the eBay marketplace to yourself.

Can you spell OPPORTUNITY?!

Not sure where to start? Don’t know how to create physical products of your own?

Well don’t worry as I have that covered too!

On Monday 31st March I’m going to release a cool new product showing you the fastest way to turn your digital products physical.

HINT: It’s a FULLY automated solution and doesn’t involve burning CDs and taking boring trips to the Post Office.

And the best part is that I’ll be offering this to those who move fast for just $9.95. :)

No scrap that…..the best part is that buyers will be entitled to promote and earn whopping 100% commissions.

More to follow and I’ll keep you posted…

eBay Digital Download Ban

March 25th, 2008

Well, this came out of the blue didn’t it?!

If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, eBay has just announced that all digital downloads will no longer be permitted in the regular listings from the 31st of March.

I’m still getting my head around this, and I’m spending the next day thinking about the best way to deal with this issue. Expect a blog post from me in the next day or so where I will share my action plan with you.

This is obviously a massive blow to lots of people but remember this…

As online marketers we’re in the problem solving business. Providing solutions to people who have problems is what we do. It’s how we get paid.

The eBay digital download ban has caused a lot of problems. Expect a post from me shortly were I discuss how we can provide solutions to these issues.

I’m personally feeling a lot of pain over this, and half my product portfolio is going to need some major updating. But instead of concentrating on the negative let’s focus on the positive.

Change brings opportunity. And I for one like to grab every opportunity with both hands.

3 Tips to Blog Like a Manic and Still Have a Life

March 24th, 2008

Blogging is a fantastic way to keep in touch with your prospects and customers. So why do so many marketers fail to blog regularly when the benefits of doing so are so huge?

Well, one reason is that when you’re knee deep in a pile of gritty tasks it can be hard to make the time to be creative on your blog. I know what that’s like and I’ve been in that spot once too often.

Want to know how to blog more regularly and still save time? Then check out the 3 tips below….

1. Create a Google Notebook account and record ideas during the week

Often the hardest part of regular blogging is actually coming up with the ideas for your posts. And when you’re super busy it can be double hard to be creative.

Open up a free Google Notebook account, and download the addon for Firefox. Now whenever you’re surfing and you come across something that gives you a great idea for a blog post you can right click, and then select ‘Note this’.

Within Google Notebook I have an ideas book, and as soon as an idea hits I make sure that it gets documented in here pronto.

At the end of the week when I’m writing my blog posts I just dip into the juicy ideas book, and I find that I’ve got loads of different things to write about.

And there’s another big benefit too. How often do you have a great idea while surfing and think to yourself that you MUST remember it? Let me tell you that it’s not easy to relax when you have a dozen ideas whirling around your head that you have to remember.

Recording your ideas in this way helps you ‘let go’ of them, and you’ll find you can relax more too.

2. Write first edit second

I’ve been saying this since I wrote Auction Profits Unleashed, so I guess it doesn’t hurt to say it again. The fastest way to write any kind of content is to write it all down first, and then to edit it second.

Don’t fall into the habbit of editing as you write. You’ll be less productive as a result, and the editing process will make you fearful of making mistakes.

Simply write your post in its entirety, and then edit later. Trust me when I say you’ll be able to create more blog posts faster.

3. Use the Wordpress Timestamp function

If you want to get productive at anything you do then ‘batch up’ the tasks. Why waste time logging in and out of Wordpress every day to make your posts when you could batch up tasks and do them all at once?

Think how much time you could save if you were to only have to login to Wordpress once because you’d scheduled all your posts in advance.

Write your posts on a set day each week, and then schedule them using the built in ‘Post Timestamp’ function and you’ll be able to blog more with less time.

And that’s it!

If you want to keep in touch with your prospects and your customers then blogging is an excellent way to do just that. Use the 3 tips above today to blog like a manic while still having a life…

Do you think these tips will work for you? Do you have any ideas of your own? Well let me know in the comments below….as always I’d love to hear from you!

Have you noticed how recently I’ve been talking a lot about automating your online business?

It’s all very well earning money online, but you also have to consider how much time and effort it takes before the cash hits your pocket.

It’s taken me a long time to realise this, but I’m now seeing the enormous value in automating every aspect of my business functions.

Introducing The Wordpress Post Timestamp Feature

March 23rd, 2008

Wordpress Post Timestamp FeatureDo you currently run a blog using Wordpress? If not why not? You really should start blogging today.

If you do use Wordpress then I want to ask if you’ve started using the Post Timestamp feature.

It’s a cracking little piece of kit that’s built into your Wordpress admin panel…and once you start using it you’ll wonder how you lived without it.

So what does it do?

Basically it allows you to schedule posts and have them appear in the future. No longer do you have to be the one pushing the ‘publish’ button as your posts go live, and instead you could be doing something much more fun.

And the best part is that it’s a complete breeze to set up too.

Do you see the picture at the top of this post?

Well when you write your next post in Wordpress you’ll notice this next to the place where you type your entry. It’s worth noting that you might find this in a different spot depending on which version of Wordpress you’re using.

To make your posts appear in the future simply tick the ‘edit timestamp’ function, and then select the date and time when you want your post to appear.

Then click ‘publish’ and that’s it!

As if by magic your post will appear while you’re off galivanting and having fun.

And just to show that I’m getting into the swing of things, you didn’t think I’d post about this topic while I’m sitting at my PC did you? Cripes no!

In fact I’m out of the house having fun at the very moment this puppy goes live.

The first person to guess EXACTLY where I am and what I’m doing wins a special prize.

(HINT: This post went live at 11:15am on Sunday 22 March and I’ve dropped a few clues over the past few days what I might be doing)

Post your guesses below and the first person to get it exactly right wins a prize. You might want to note that I won’t actually be around to publish the comments until I get back. :)

The Number One Marketing Myth?

March 22nd, 2008

There’s a lot of lazy people out there who are only to happy to give you bad marketing advice without a second thought. Here’s one of the worst pieces of advice that seems to get an almost daily airing…

“The Money is in the List”.

How many times have you heard that piece of crazy talk spouted on an online forum? Too many times I’ll bet. Let me tell you right now that the money is NOT in the list. The money is in the relationship with the list.

Sure, having a big list helps but it counts for nothing if you have zero connection with those who receive your emails. So why do people tell you that you need a big list to profit online? I have no idea but I suspect it’s a mixture of laziness and self interest.

This isn’t scientific by any stretch of the imagination but consider this. When I had a list of 603 I was able to finish 3rd in a huge JV contest. The email that led me to 3rd place was my first ever promotional email.

Some others who finished outside the top 10 claim to have lists of 50,000 or more. Yet I was able to outperform them with a tiny list of just 603 people.

Want to know why? Because I worked hard to build a relationship with my subscribers, and because I battled to protect their interests.

The money is not in the list. It’s in the RELATIONSHIP you have with your individual subscribers. Heck, my list is currently only 4,000 strong yet last month I made a profit in excess of $20,000.

Want to know how to build a rock solid relationship with your subscribers that will boost your open rates and increase your profits? Then check out the link below now…

Do What You Love Not What You Hate

March 22nd, 2008

Right now it’s 11:19 on a Saturday morning, and I’m having a blast. What am I doing that’s so fantastic? Well, I’m working that’s what!

Now I know that you’ll think the fact that I enjoy working so much to be a bit crazy, so let me explain.

I genuinely love what I do for a living, and every morning I wake up with a spring in my step. I seriously can’t wait to get to my desk and get cracking on the day ahead. I just love it!

And here’s why…

Helping people and sharing what I know is my real passion in life. This is what gives me an incredible buzz each day, and what motivates me to push hard.

That’s not the only thing I enjoy of course.

I also love continual learning and discovery, and I have a real passion for education. Do you think I have all the answers? No way!

Each day I expand my knowledgbase, and learn a drop more. Cripes, the day I stop learning will be the day I get bored and look for something else to do with my time.

And if I’m talking about what I really enjoy about my work, I’d have to give a nod and a wink to the freedom that my business gives me every day.

Want to know why I’m working double hard today? Because I’m planning to enjoy my weekend on Sunday, Monday, and maybe Tuesday that’s why.

You see, unlike most others businesses out there, when you run your own online enterprise YOU get to decide when to work.

One of the most enjoyable things about this freedom is when some friends are on holiday for a few days and suggest doing something fun. What do I do? Yep, I just rearrange my schedule and head out the door.

If you spend any time around marketing forums, people will always talk about money as being a chief motivator.

That’s never worked for me. When I completed my Law degree people thought I was crazy for turning down a very well paid position in Northamption at a big national form.

My friends just couldn’t understand how I could turn down such a high paying job, and why it didn’t seem to bother me.

Do you want to know why? Because money doesn’t motivate me, and it never has and it never will either.

Money is just what you need to achieve freedom from life, and so it’s a means to an end, and not an end in itself.

After finishing my Law degree I spent 2 1/2 years training to be a management accountant, while studying for the CIMA qualification. It was the most boring few years of my life, and I clearly wasn’t suited to this type of work.

In this time I had 3 different jobs, and each time I move to a new business I received a hefty payrise (even though I hated it I was pretty good at it).

And guess what? The new payrise kicked in and I felt happy again. For about two months.

Three months later and I was bored again. Bored of never ending long hours. Bored of tedius spreadsheet work that didn’t really matter. Bored of watching the clock again day after day.

In my first accountancy job I handed my notice in 3 times in 9 months. Every time I did so they offered me a big pay rise to stay! Did it make me happy? Well it did for about 2 months, and then I was miserable again.

Money doesn’t buy you happiness. Freedom does.

When designing your Internet Business don’t become too concerned with how much money you can earn each and every month. Instead focus on doing what you love and not what you hate.

Focus on creating a lifestyle that you enjoy, a job that you love, and a sense of freedom that won’t ever escape you.

I know plenty of full time Internet Marketers and the happy ones aren’t the ones who make the most money. The happy ones are those who make enough money to live a life they enjoy, and who do what they love and not what they hate.
