Okay I couldn’t take any more…
For 3 months now I’ve been sat opposite James (our ops manager) listening to him bang on about how great his Mac Book Pro is every time my PC had one of its five daily crashes.
Well I could take no more and so today I’ve had my very own happy looking Mac Book Pro delivered…

Needless to say I’ve very excited and can’t wait to get stuck in!
So now that I’m making the switch from PC to Mac I guess I’m going to need some help. Do you have any Mac Book tips to share, or maybe some cool software you recommend?
Well then let me know in the comments below…. it would be appreciated!

Looks very snazzy Lee, although I think James’ reflection in the last photo doesn’t do much for it! (That is only a joke, cause it actually might be you Lee, which means James took the photo?!)
So does this mean you’re scrapping the desktop that has 2 monitors, or is it replacing an older laptop you had? I believe it’s replacing the 2 monitor desktop, but I’m not always right!
One piece of advice I can give you is DON’T overload your new ‘toy’ with things that it doesn’t neeed to have!
I’m now going to have to go into one of these electrical stores, and see if I can have a little play on a MacBook Pro. (They just look so good!)
Thanks
Mark
Nooooooooooooooooooooo… lol
They’ve invited you into the dark side Lee.
I’m A PC – TRENDS
I loved my MacBook! Unfortunately it had to go when I needed a little extra cash!
I simply couldn’t justify owning 4 computers any longer!
Have fun playing with your new toy!

@ Mark – hey that’s me in the reflection! James has now added chief photographer to his long list of office titles
@ GoTrends – I’m a PC too. If only because I can’t figure out how to use this damn Mac! Where the heck is the right mouse button anyway?!!
@ John – nice to see you around these parts again
I hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

GREAT! Welcome to the GOOD side (pay NO attention to GoTRENDS) If you had started with a MAC, maybe you would have gone from Teacher to Marketer even faster!! (Congrats on an amazing accomplishment)
I downloaded your report on “Profit 13 Ways” and found that to rebrand it, I needed a PC – LOL… you’ve included the dreaded .exe file.
Hi Lee,
Looks good. I crossed over the great divide to a MacBook Pro about 12 months ago. I love the OS and the “feel” of it. More like maneuvering a sportscar vs. a shrimp barge (PC).
If you decide to run both Windows-based programs, and Mac programs, you will need to look at having enough room on your hardrive to partition it, without losing a lot of speed. You can investigate programs like Parallels, et. al. for this.
Right clicking can be done by tapping the pad with two fingers, not one. It can tell the difference, but you may need to set that up via Preferences> mouse/keypad > trackpad settings, then check the box allows tracking with two fingers for secondary clicks.
Thereafter, just tap with two fingers and you’re off.
You can also hold two fingers on the track pad and click the bar along the trackpad simutaneously, and this will activate a right click.
Have fun!
John
Hi Lee…me again. You have a problem with your link on your One-on-One mentoring program. It re-directs, when clicked, to a pop-up offer for some of your free items. At least it did for me on Firefox. Just letting you know, so you can take a look at that.

If you got iLife with it Pages is a pretty good word processor with some snazzy layouts for newsletters.
Garagesale is a damn good eBay auction lister.
Domainbrain is invaluable if you have a few sites to manage as is Filezilla FTP.
And finally Box Shot 3D works just as well on a Mac as it does PC.
Ed…
Thanks for those ideas. I’m gonna try DomainBrain.
I didn’t know filezilla had a Mac version… I’ve been real happy with “Fetch” as my FTP proggy (and it’s free too). And I second the motion re: Garage Sale.
Photoshop is a Must-Have proggy for IM, and since that’s the case, downloading the hundreds of free actions that are online, I can’t see the need for Box Shot 3D although it looks clean and simple to use. And while we’re on this subject, check out “Pipette”.
I recently discovered “Hide Folders” and it works flawlessly.
“I Say” is another little app that I use alot for recording audio.
And for screenshots and screen videos, try “SnapZ Pro X” and “ScreenFlow”.
Keep em coming guys!
@ Craig – ha good point about the .exe! I was actually thinking the download was broken until someone pointed out thar .exes don’t work on a Mac
So much to learn and so little time!
@ John – Thanks for the cool tips there. That’s really helpful!
I must say that I’m getting used to the trackpad more and more, though I do keep dragging and dropping files when trying to open them…
With this in mind accessing FTP at the moment is a worry!!
@Ed – thank you also for the great tips! I’m looking at those newsletter layouts right now and I like what I see
@ Craig – thank you for the screen capture tip. I’m downloading that now.
For FTP James uses CyberDuck so I’m giving that a try.
Has anyone used Screenflow for screen capture recording? I like how in Camtasia I can only record a certain size area (640×480 for example) but I can’t seem to do this in Screenflow?
Thanks for the tips everyone!

Apologies for the double post! I’m the Newbie on the Web!
Lee, Congrats on your MacBookPro purchase! I do consider myself a Mac expert on its use and applications, please stick with me on these recommendations. Your MBP is an awesome tool for Infopreneurs. Absolutely the best laptop you could get today.
A few things you should have. First, get yourself a firewire backup drive that’s at least 1TB in size http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/. The OWC Mercury Elite Pro Aluminum is what you’ll need. Your backup drive/clone should be twice to three times the size of your source HD.
Second, get a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner, it’s free here http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html.
Second, learn how to use Preview, Apple’s PDF reader application asap. It saves all your text and eBook files FROM ANY APPLICATION to PDF without any additional software! The resulting output to PDF files are so pristine! Preview also provides security options such as a password to open the document, copy text and printing.
Lots of options there. Also, make sure to get iLife and iWork. Keynote will become an awesome tool for you in creating videos for your Blog/websites and YouTube.
Since the early 90’s Mac users have been really left out of the Infopreneur Product Creation Explosion. I still see many .exe files and software for PC’s and not much for Mac’s. There’s an incredible opportunity here on the Mac platform.
Third, get yourself a copy of one of the Virtual PC programs to load Windows on. If you’re really a hardcore PC user, you could get two separate drives for PC use. One for XP-PRO SP3 and one for Vista. That way you can keep things separate, but have all the HD’s available on your desktop. Many times, I have four to six drives available for use.
Finally, to get you up to speed with all things Mac, check the Macsurfer news site out each day for half an hour or so http://www.macsurfer.com/. That will get you going full bore.
I don’t know much about selling on the web. But I do know my mac stuff backwards and forwards. Maybe we could JV on a Project for the Mac community. It’s an UNTAPPED MARKET! Let me know what I can do to help you as an honorable Mac Newbie.
That’s it for now. Best wishes for all your readers and please have an awesome start to your holiday season!
Best, Donnie Dixon from Boston, MA, USA.
@ Donnie – WOW!
Thank you so much for such a detailed post. That’s such a big help and I want you to know that it’s appreciated.
I guess the best way to learn is to just jump in and get used to the controls. That’s quite good fun when I’m relaxing BUT not much fun at all when I’m working!
Thanks for the great tips

Lee–brief post here. MacBook Pro has a built in screen capture if you want to do quick and dirty static shots.
This explains it:

@ John – thanks for that! That’s perfect for what I need
Cheers!

Hey Lee,
Welcome to the club and thanks for all
your help.
Couple of tips that have not been mentioned.
Quicksilver is a great utility which gives
you a really fast shortcut to virtually anything
inside your box.
Text Expander is a great little program
for repeat typing tasks i.e. signatures, etc.
After my 0000th Windows crash over 6 months ago
made the same decision as you and will never look back.
But if you still need those old Windows files, etc like I do you can have your PC on your
Mac with Parallels or VMWAREFusion. Having tried both would highly recommend VMWarefusion over Parallels 3 as it is more stable.
Finally for screencapture there are now 2 geat online services Jing from Techsmith video and still and Skitch (mac only) but absolutely Supercool!!
Take care and Enjoy.
Martin
@ Martin – thanks for that Quicksilver tip… that’s priceless!
And I’m checking out Text Expander now too
THANK YOU for taking the time to share what you know… it’s appreciated!
Cheers

LOL, is there anything in the office that James doesn’t do?!… (Just ask him to give you a shot of the camera!)
I hope you’re having fun with your MacBook Pro, as you’ve now had a couple of days to toy around with it. Do let us know if you find anything of use for it, and even although I don’t own one myself, it’s nice to see what others use to help them work! =)
Thanks
Mark
@ Mark – ha yes James has a WIDE range of responsibilities! He does them all very well too.
But we need to get rid of his Apple obsession or my bank balance will go down and my pile of needless gadgets will go up (…he really, really, really loves all things Apple and we’ve been to their store twice this week already!)
They do a great job at their marketing though. Yesterday I nearly bought an Apple TV and I have no idea what it does!
Mmmn, maybe I should hide my credit card for a bit!
Cheers

Hi Lee!
This is a really interesting post!
I bought an imac 20″ last year and never regret it.
I started my blog with the help of John Thornhill’s coaching program(it’s my fifth week) and I have a post about mac and internet business with a very interesting video.

Hi Lee,
Glad you like the Amazing Quicksilver app.
Just forgot to mention the great free pdf guide
which you can find here:
