Writing this post is quite simply one of the hardest things that I’ve ever had to do, and I’m not afraid to say that I do with tears in my eyes.
It is with deep regret that I have to pass on the tragic news that Colm Butterly sadly passed away on Sunday 16th December 2007, and he will be greatly missed.
For those who didn’t know Colm, then you really did miss out.
He was warm, generous, and unbelievavly giving in everything he did. I lost count of the number of times he helped me out of a sticky situation with his fascinatingly deep techinical knowledge and skills, and you could always count on him to lend a hand.
I called him Colm ‘Man of Action’ Butterly because he was always seeking to help out others, and I’ve never known one man give so much assistance to those around him and expect so little in return.
He was the volunteer site admin over at Standing Start Profits and he was respected and loved by each and every member there. He really will be deeply missed, and our community is much poorer as a result of this tragic loss.
I know that I will never forget the help that Colm gave me, and I know others won’t forget either. He touched my life, he was my hero, and he really was the kind of human being that we should all aspire to be.
My thoughts go to his family as this deeply difficult time, and I’m sure that others would like to join me by passing on their regards in the comments below.
We will never forget…

I cant believe it either and really dont know what to say.
I am so sorry for his family and everybody who knew him.
Even though I have only known Colm for a few months online
I know he is a unique and irreplacable person.
We have all lost a friend.

I am stunned…
Colm was a fantastic person who gave freely of his time and helped me out on many occasions.
My deepest sympathy goes out to Colm’s family and friends.
You will be missed Colm, rest in peace.

Stunned. I just can’t believe it.
THE most selfless man I ever had the pleasure to deal with online. He was a real gentleman.
This is simply the saddest, most awful news I’ve heard in a long time.
My thoughts & prayers go out to his family at this terrible time. Such a tragic loss.
RIP Colm. I’ll miss you mate.

Well, what can you say in a moment like this? I’m just stunned and can’t believe it!
Colm was GREAT too me, and if I needed a hand, then he was there for me. I spoke to him often on Skype and was amazed when Sian…[his wife]…told me the bad news.
My thought’s go out to his family, I know they are going to miss him! I know his son Anthony will deeply miss his dad.
RIP Colm, I’m going to miss you mate! You were a great laugh and nice to chat too.

I didn’t know Colm but from all the comments here and the post on the Warrior forum it is obvious he was a wonderful, kind person. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Especially his widow and young child.
Peace.

I didn’t have the pleasure to know Colm, but I have been moved by what happened and by what people say about him … It’s sooo sad to know we lost such a valuable person.
My prayers are with you Colm!

Took me a while to make this comment as I am a loss for words.
My heart aches and I am saddened by his passing.
We have never had the chance to meet face to face but a friend and mentor he was. Always willing to help and go beyond the call of duty with no hesitation or reward asked or wanted.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I wish I could be with them to offer hope and comfort.
Colm, my Brother, if the Lord allows you to use his internet service, and I know you will be reading Lee’s blog, save a seat for me so we can finally have that that meeting over a pint or two of our favorite beverage. (hope that’s allowed up there :)….
You will be missed!
May the path to Glory rise to meet your step.

I offer my prayers and sincerest condolences to Colm Butterly’s family. God Bless you all.
Colm Butterly was truly a kind and generous person. While I never got the chance to meet him in person, I count him among the best of my online friends.
I will miss you.
