Lee-McIntyre.com and a Huge Decision!

by Lee McIntyre on August 9, 2007

My regular readers know that I like to do everything here at Lee-McIntyre.com with a personal touch.

I answer all the emails I receive. I go out of my way to help people.

And I treat my subscribers like real people, and not like statistics to be taken advantage of like so many other marketers out there.

But as my business gets bigger, it’s not possible to keep up this personal level of attention AND be a full time teacher at the same time.

I love doing both, but I’m fast approaching a point where this is no longer going to be possible.

I’m at a crossroads and a BIG decision is looming!

What do you think? Should I continue trying to do both, or just concentrate on one. And if so, which one?!

Hit reply and let me know your thoughts……

I’d love to hear what you think!

I know you already chose to go into teaching rather than pursue a lucrative career in Law. My guess is is that you are a guy who goes with his heart. You love both teaching and marketing so finding out where your heart lies is going to be one of the toughest things you ever do.
You are doing the right thing, right now. Before you choose, get as much input as possible from as many people as possible..
Best of Luck, whichever way you go…

I think you have to do what feels right, and only you can decide that.

But please don’t stop sending us the newsletters :)

Hi Lee,

I am a loyal memebr of Standing Start. I would like to make my comments on you being at a crossroads…. I would assume, from just knowing you for a few weeks that you are an AMAZING teacher and those kids are lucky to have had you in their lives, but I think you need to do this Internet Marketing FULL TIME(I know I am being selfish here..LOL) because you are A BREATH OF FRESH AIR in this business and I know there are thousands out there trying to get going in the business that would agree with me.

The Fat Cats dominate and the little guy just doesnt have a chance, but with you leading the charge we can change things and make it a more level playing field….I for one am behind you 100% and will support you all the way…… Lets all rally behind this fine young man and chake things up a bit…and make some $$$$ on the way…LOL

Seriously Lee…keep up your wonderful work..and WE have only just begun..look out Guru’s we are coming for you!!

Hi Lee,
Whilst I am not remotely at the internet marketing stage you are, I used to be a primary school teacher. I loved it for ten years, then perservered for another ten, cos, by then, I thought the education system had lost the plot and forgotten the children. I have been out for about four years now and enjoy being a househusband and trying to find ways to make money on the internet – I just don’t have as much time to devote to it as I would like! I will get there one day. Anyway, enough about me, let’s talk about you! The internet marketing world to which you currently half belong, is the same as the classroom in a way. You are teaching, mentoring and nurturing us the way you do your students in the classroom. Take on this marketing thing full time. You can always get back to the classroom if you feel, in a few years/decades! time you have had enough. Once a teacher, always a teacher. ANY place can be your classroom!

As a “professional” person in a different field I’d love to get where you are today and have that choice (in my case retirement may kick in first!!). As you said yourself, as a marketeer you are still teaching but applying it away from a classroom situation. By stepping out of the classroom you can also find other ways of helping educate children by what you learn developing your business.
Personally – working in mental health – I hope my blogging/internet experiences will create ideas that I can use or pass on to help deliver better services to those with mental health problems.

Hi there Lee.

I’m *very* proud of you and what your doing.

Keep pumping out these newsletters and be consistant!

Oh, and in regards to people who have ‘no.reply@..’ email addresses.. Well i’m going to be guilty too.

I’ve just started changing my email addresses to incorporate the ‘no.reply’ words SO THAT I CAN CENTRALIZE all messages through my helpdesk.

It’s not that I will not reply to emails but you see Lee, if you want to take your business from 6 figures per year to 7 figures, you’ve got to structure and organise your business differently.

There is just no ‘order’ in receiving random emails into your inbox everyday. You’ll soon find that you’re spending HOURS checking and replying to emails everyday.

IT WILL CONSUME YOU!

Create organisation and centralize. That’s what i’m doing anyway.

I look forward to speaking to you again in the future.

Hi everyone!

And thanks for the lovely comments too.

It is a BIG decision but I already think I know which way I’m swaying. I love teaching but IM has just taken hold of me.

I enjoy every second even more than being in the classroom. It is a difficult decision, but in my mind it is already nearly made.

Thanks to everyone for the fantastic support as always…..I couldn’t do it without you :)

Keep the comments coming too! We’re only just getting started here :)

Hi Adeel

You make an excellent point, and my emails are already becoming overwhelming.

How I maintain the personal touch, and create the distance needed to take my business forward, is an important question to think about.

Whether I would want to do this is another question too.

What does everyone reading this think? Is it best to stay accessible, or is it best to create systems that make space and allow me to grow?

Let me know your thoughts…..

Hi Lee,

I’m a high school teacher as well (I’ve e-mailed you before). I have to say the reason I got into the internet business was the flexibility it offers. I love teaching as well but, as you know, it is an all-consuming career until summer rolls around. I want to have more time with my husband and children. I teach dramatic arts and English. The way I see it, being an internet infopreneur allows me to use my creativity and my writing skills, as well as my teaching skills. If I ever get to the point you’re at, my online business will win hands down. I’d miss the students but it’s a small price to pay for freedom. Aren’t you teaching all of us right now :) ?

Hi Lee,
You are indeed a wonderful teacher, and you are even able to teach us big kids which is a huge feat in and of itself.

This is a big decision. And since you asked, I’m going to stick my opinion in!

Why do you think that you cannot do both? Teaching can take many forms as you have already shown. It does not have to be in a ‘classroom’. Have you considered working with local youth groups or mentoring or even inviting a group of young people and teaching them what you are teaching us?

Selfishly I would hate for you to leave IM and I’m guessing the parents of your students feel the same.

I’m just saying…you are so very capable of thinking outside the box Lee. Maybe take this decision outside the box as well.
Wish you all the best, Paula

Hi Lee,

First a note to say how very much I’m enjoying your ebook, “Auction Profits Unleashed.” Thanks!

Regarding your dilema, I fully expect your IM activities will very soon have people like me knocking at your door to do adult continuing education. Teaching adults has rewards too. You’ll still be touching the lives of appreciative students and watching them grow.

12 Lee McIntyre August 10, 2007 at 8:41 pm

There are some great points here and I’m very appreciative.

If I were to do IM full time then I’d like to spend a least a day a week in a school environment. I’m also heavily involved with Young Enterprise, which is kind of like a club where I help students set up there own business, and I’d probably want to continue this as a volunteer.

When I imagine life without teaching I get pangs of panic. I would miss it so much. But equally I get the same feelings when thinking about life without internet marketing!

And I know now for sure that it’s not possible to do both at the level of intensisty required.

I’ve never done anything by half and I’m certainly not going to start now!

Maybe it does require an ‘out of box solution’. I love teaching, but maybe it doesn’t have to be in a classroom.

There is some fantastic advice here and I thank you all.

Please don’t stop, as this is incredible useful.

Keep the opinions coming!

Hi Lee
I am also a newbie spent a fortune on different reports hoping to make a sale but you just keep waiting and getting paranoid that no one wants your articles.
I have bought most of your reports and i must say its is written in layman terms and very informative and easy to understand.
Thank you and i hope we will make real money this time.
As for your 2 websites i would pick b but i think there is to many books thats my opinion.
From a Manchester lad.

Hi Lee,

I think you have already proved that you do indeed care about your subscribers and customers. It would be nice if you could do both, but I know that’s impossible.

I would say you should just go for your teaching career as that is what you want. We all understand.

Brian.
