Good vid Lee. Great new flat too. You need more light on your mug. Can’t see you that well.

I’m one of those rare folk who do not find this sort of thing nerve racking. I actually like public speaking. I just always assume people like me. LOL! I should have been a lawyer.

a gremlin has got in.

Hello Lee,

It is strange that you did this video today. I am struggling with this very thing. I have a product ALMOST ready to launch… it lacks just a few things…probably 2 days work.

It has lacked the 2 days work for about 2 weeks now. I wasn’t quite sure what was holding me back.

Your message was just what I needed this morning. I think you hit my problem right on the head. I have to step out of my comfort zone. Fear is a horrible thing. Most of it is imagined. We are much tougher on ourselves than others are.

Thanks Lee I appreciate your message.

4 Joe Kerrigan October 27, 2008 at 12:56 pm

Sorry, picture now appeared after about 5 minutes. Your face is dark and the background is distracting, better with a bland background and you seated, maybe using visual aids as well.Content fine.

5 Oliver October 27, 2008 at 12:58 pm

I agree the video is too dark.. another good content.

Hi Lee,

Well, I think you were fabulous in your first video!! And your message was exactly what I needed this morning.

You see, I am in the process of putting up my own blog (Aint’t Life Grand). I keep putting things off and not getting anywhere. So, I just made my list of three things, and now I am setting out to accomplish one of them.

Thank you for the boost. I really needed it. And, I think I will watch this video every morning , for the boost, and then my blog will be up before I know it.

Love and Light,

PJ Breese

Hi Lee,

Good message…it’s funny how once you try new things, you realise they’re not so terrifying.

I’m a terrible procrastinator and find the longer I put something off, the scarier it becomes in my own mind. I try to schedule things I hate doing first now, so once it’s out the way I can relax!

Anyway, nice vid…if only I could talk that coherently after a night on the tiles…lol!

Cheers…Graham

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. Jumping out of our comfort zones is certainly difficult to do…and that’s why the rewards are often so great!

I agree about the lighting – in this vid I wanted to concentrate more on the message but in future output I’ll have a think about how to make it brighter (though I’m kinda limited with my current equipment!)

By the way – I’m writing this on the way to the airport and I’ve left someone else in charge of my business for the week. This was HARD to do but is another example of leaving my comfort zone and being rewarded for doing so :)

Cheers!

Great video! Great Message! I needed to hear that. Although I know what I need to do to take my business to the next level I keep putting it off. So I am going to take your advice, step off the ledge, do something out of my comfort zone, and plug away until the pieces fall into place!
Thank you!

11 Alex Jeffreys October 27, 2008 at 2:10 pm

well well well … I finally get to see Mr Mcintyre in the flesh, (whats up man)

all im going to say is well done lee.

i know what you are saying about your comfort zone, its hard to do anything the first time,

man when I look back at all the things i was once upon a time scared of it seems really silly now,

but its all part of our growth, so good on you lee
for being open about that to your followers

enjoy your trip away

regards

Alex

Hello Lee

Hope you are well.
You look very good indeed.

Brilliant content as usual.
Video for soem reason did not show on Flock but came up great on Avant browser, so it must be a setting on my Flock.

Apart from the dark video ( i think that was probably due to the highly lit background) , you came across very very professional.

Its very true – things that you tend to put off are probably the things that will probably make you more money and or move you forward.

Hamant
Ps – Next time you make a video give me shout – I’ll come across and shoot it for you – for a beer of course !!

13 Mark McWilliams October 27, 2008 at 2:40 pm

So what have we got here then?… HEHE

To start with, thanks for the video Lee. Although I spent more of the time ‘looking’ around your flat, you definately put the message across about stepping out your confort zone!

Plus it truely is GREAT to see what you look like in the flesh. I hope to few lots more videos like this, as they just work. (When I say ‘work’ I’m talking about how they appeal to people more!)

Enjoy your holiday, and don’t get too burnt!

Thanks
Mark

Great video Lee and the advice is spot on as usual. Whenever I’m up against something that makes me feel uncomfortable I take the band-aid approach and I just peel that sucker off fast.

One of the things I’m working on that I don’t want to do is face to face networking. I’m setting up a meetup in November with other Internet marketers in my area and I’m already nervous about it but I know it’s important to do this for my business.

15 Adam October 27, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Inspirational…..good work !!!
Hope to c more videos with you in it….
Btw, i used to stay in manchester for 1.5 years! nice place..should have meet up with you then…hehe…joke!

Hi Lee,

Thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone to give us this message.

Truly our worst enemies are often ourselves.

Well Done Lee,
There will be no stopping you now !

Looking forward to Loads more future vids.

18 Dr. Michael Beck | Chiropractic Marketing October 27, 2008 at 5:48 pm

Lee,

I think this video was more interesting than some of your screen capture videos.

I agree, the lighting could be better. Maybe try to record during the daytime.

19 John October 27, 2008 at 5:58 pm

Hi Lee,
It never comes amiss to be told, again, about comfort zones.
Years ago when I was new to Round Table and only a couple of years older than you are now, I would catch the eye of the Chairman to offer a point of view to the discussion in hand. In due course he would bring me in to get me on my feet and express my particular view.
In the short time I was waiting for my turn my heart would be thumping away and I was wishing my turn would never come.
Once on my feet everything began to fall into place. These days I find I am on my feet and putting a view before I realised I had a view!
So I can identify with your first time talking to a camera. For any one else having the same fear may I suggest they “talk to the students in their class” as friends. There is a message they are wanting to hear….and you have that knowledge!
I am sure the lighting aspect of the video will come good.
I enjoyed it all and have the first three on my fear list. Well done Lee and thanks.
John

20 JerryE October 27, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Lee – the technical and quality aspects of the video are irrelevant as far as I’m concerned. It’s the content. And the most profound and influential messages are short and simple. Our minds are experts at skirting what needs to be done. Making all kinds of subtle excuses and rationales. You cut right through my “BS” (Brain stuff) and made me aware that I have to do the uncomfortable things that successful people do! I’ll take a hundred “low quality” videos with this kind of content! Thanks Lee.

21 Welly Mulia October 27, 2008 at 7:06 pm

Hi there Lee,

Wowww finally we get to see you in person and not using camtasia as you would normally do.

Great! I’ve been very curious to know what you would look like on screen, and I even commented on the post where you used a flip video to give us a tour of your office. I said something along the lines of “hey there is James, so where is Lee?”

P/s: I’m also uncomfortable recording myself :P

22 Mark Dyble October 27, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Hi Lee
Good message. Feeling uncomfortable? Brilliant! This must be an opportunity to learn and grow. What action do I need to take now to take advantage of this opportunity?
Comfortable? Can’t be growing.
Lee – are you interested in being a guest speaker at a Planning Day for SMEs that I’m hosting in January? If so, please get in touch this week.

23 ken October 27, 2008 at 10:29 pm

Well done Lee, great info that’s really all common sense. But for some reason very few people trying to “make it” in this business are willing to leave their comfort zone. I think most people expect to make money without putting “real” effort and commitment into their work.

Ken.

24 Pete Elllis October 28, 2008 at 11:01 am

Hi Lee
Great video and I think to see someone speaking not just hearing the voice adds more credibility.
Unfortunately I couldn’t hear what you were saying even with all volumes on full, although from the other messages it sounds as though it was thought provoking.

Look forward to another one.

All the best
Pete

25 Robb Auspitz October 28, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Hi Lee,

I appreciate your message. Certainly something that I need to act on. Thank you for doing this video.

26 Ray Johnson October 29, 2008 at 11:19 am

Alright Lee,

Hope you having a great time in Prague and thanks for the message sent from James yesterday (RE: affiliate commission)

OK, moving on, firstly good to see you in the flesh for the first time (but I didn’t think it was halloween yet? :) just kidding mate! Swanky flat too…

This really is a GREAT message you share in the video…

You see, from PERSONAL experience in my daily non-marketing life, I have faced MANY MANY challenges where I have been in positions of uneasyness, and downright FEAR at times (you know why) – but my philosophy is “what the hell – just do it” :)

This has what has made me such a headstrong go-getter that I am today.

In my MARKETING BUSINESS I can also certainly relate to “the first JV call on Skype” – it was actually more of an initial chat and was with Alex Jeffreys over a year ago – I was VERY nervous at the time…

…and now, I am doing a call with JT (John Thornhill) for a new product coming soon – and you know what Lee? I STILL feel nervous to this day! BUT I simply GET ON and do it as I know the after effects will be positive on my business.

So to all your followers Lee: IMPLEMENT what Lee tells you, fight the fear and you WILL reap the rewards.

Thanks for sharing the vid, and I’ll catch you soon.

Ray

27 James Teale – Lee's Operations Manager October 29, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Just got off the phone with Lee (he literally had to drag himself away from the Czech beer to talk to me!)

He had me read all the comments above to him down the phone — and he’s thrilled!

Anyway, Lee would just like to say a massive Thank You for the response to this video… and as uncomfortable as it was to make… he’s looking forward to creating many more in future!

All the best,

James

28 Ray Johnson October 29, 2008 at 4:34 pm

Cmon now James,

NOT JUST the Czech beer!

The women are rather nice over there too :) A marketer with all Lee’s international recognition ISN’T just drinkin beer I know ;)

Hat’s off once again for the video Lee.

29 vanessa October 30, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Hi Lee,
What a great video, forget the lighting and of course the hair, the message is the most important. Your certainly right about ‘The comfort zone’. Your message is inspiring and something that I will be working towards. Thankyou that is something I needed to hear.

Have a great break

Regards Vanessa

30 Ken Trueman October 31, 2008 at 5:55 pm

Hi Lee.
Great video and I am sure you will learn from it.
You have lifted me from my own comfort Zone, I have my first product ready to introduce to fellow marketeers on a joint venture promotion.
I must admit to dithering about this as I have not done this before.
You have given me the will to accomplish this and I will be doing it right NOW.
You will one of the first JV partners I ask.

Regards
Ken Trueman

31 Jared O'Toole November 1, 2008 at 4:54 pm

Great tips. Taking a leap is what gets you noticed. You may not like it but it’s what you have to do. If your %100 comfortable everyday you probably aren’t pushing yourself hard enough.

32 Pippa November 2, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Lee, here’s a tip for lighting without using going to extra expense. Next time wait for daylight, set up the camera in front of the window (directed into the room) and sit yourself facing the window (and camera of course). Best when the sun is NOT shining directly into the window. You’d be surprised at how effective this is.
BTW great advice as usual.

33 Debra November 3, 2008 at 6:51 pm

No video available.

34 Nathan Rufus November 5, 2008 at 7:48 pm

Lee,

Thank you for this message. I need to well and truly get out of my comfort zone. My passion has always been to start my own business.

I’m a 27 year old father of two (my son was born just two weeks ago) and all I have done over the last 3 months or so is “prepare”.

Reading, buying various products. I know that I need to TAKE ACTION. But I think that stepping out of my comfort zone is what’s stopping me.

I have bought webspace and domains, set up a blog (which I have not posted on yet), purchased an autoresponder.

Now is the time to take the jump.

Thank you again.

35 Kevin Brown November 6, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Wow, Great message, Lee.

You have said it to me before, but I need to keep hearing it. Definately, a trap I fall into.

In the video, surely the background is done with green screen? Or do you really live in such a cool-looking, ‘designer’ apartment? :-)

All the best

Kevin

36 Lee McIntyre November 6, 2008 at 9:52 pm

THANK YOU everyone for the amazing comments!

I’ve posted a more detailed thank you below.

http://www.lee-mcintyre.com/blog/thank-you-from-prague

I was so nervous about this video but the response has blown me away. It’s deeply appreciated!
________________

@Kevin Brown – do I look like the kind of marketer who owns a green screen LOL?!

If you think this apartment is fancy you should have seen the one with the swimming pool that I nearly got…

It even had a bar on the roof!!

@Nathan – I hear you and I understand. I was in the same situation once and then something clicked and I just ‘went to work’ and never looked back.

You can do it. You just need to believe.

37 Terence November 7, 2008 at 3:05 am

Hey Lee, it looks like you stepped out of your comfort zone and gotten into an even better one judging by your flat.

Joking aside, everyone has to grit their teeth occasionally and do something they really don’t want to do but they know it has to be done.

This Mark Twain quote could be used to describe your imaginary fears when stepping out of your comfort zone.

“I have lived a long life and had many troubles, most of which never happened.”

And here’s another of his for procrastinators…

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable tasks, and then starting on that first one.”

People haven’t changed much have they?

38 Mark McWilliams November 9, 2008 at 1:53 am

It was only today that I created my very first video, and posted it over on my blog. So far the feedback, from the 4 people who have left me a comment has been good! (Although they all pointed out the sound wasn’t too great, but still!)

While I’m stil trying to work out all the normal things, like what’s the best size to use, and stuff like that! – It’ll come to me!

Thanks
Mark

Hey Lee,

Great and very inspiring video.

Mate, I can tell you something, it can take a heck of a lot to take that first step, BUT taking that first step is THE major thing that needs to happen for success to follow.

Keep up the good job and maybe one day we might JV and share our stories about nerves and moving out of the comfort zone!

42 tom January 5, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Glad to see that Zippy is alive and well. His voice may have broken now, but that hasn’t stopped him being the one to watch in this industry for 2009!

Well done, Lee.
