Stop Selling and Start Giving – The Power of Free Content

by Lee McIntyre on December 8, 2007

I get asked a lot how I’ve managed to enter the Internet Marketing niche and start making big profits in such a short space of time. The answer that I always give is that I ’stopped selling and I started giving’, and the sales flowed much more easily as a result.

Hit play below now to discover what I’m talking about, and to learn how you can replicate my success in your own business starting today…

I hope you enjoyed the video and I hope you found some value in it. Click here to find a copy of the Warrior post in question, and make sure you leave a comment in the blog below too. I’d love to hear from you!

I agree with you about delivering quality content that everyone can use. I write computer articles and I use to sell every article I wrote. Now my site and newsletter provides a lot of computer tips for free. I found that my subscribers increased once I started delivering quality content.

Thank for re-confirming that I am doing the right things.

Great video yet again Lee.

You know what I love about this is you can really sense the passion & excitement you get from delivering such great content. And let me tell you it’s hugely appreciated!

Thanks again, John

Enjoy the match Lee, is it Rochdale that you support, or a more glamorous team?

I’ve been online for four years but your warrior forum post has inspired me to stop flitting around, and copy your methods.

Thanks, I’m not sure how you do it, but you manage to convey what needs to be done in a way that that’s clear and refreshing.

Congratulations on your success

Come on Ricky

Again, I am amazed. I have been “in” IM for less than 2 months and have been studying everything I can get my hands on. I can’t tell you how pleased I was when I first read something of yours. I believe that the “burning passion and excitement” comment that is often used in reference to you comes in a great part from being a teacher and loving it. Perhaps as a retired teacher who truly “loved” her job I am a little biased.

Keep up the good work. I am trying hard to follow your exact route. Putting off doing some things in my parenting niche so that I can build the confidence as you say. Although money is great and I definitely need it, that’s not what it is all about with me.

Yo da man!

LOVE the video but I’m worried about you Lee. You need to stop giving us free stuff and start selling or you’ll be back teaching again before you know it!

Seriously good stuff and thanks again.

You really are DA MAN!

Hi Lee,
Great inspiring video! This is pretty much what I have been starting to do, concentrating on producing content and stuff I believe my niche wants and needs and shutting out all of the distractions that can sidetrack you as you first get into IM.

I have my first website which has been live for 1 week now. My full time job now is to produce content for it and drive traffic to it. If you have really good content as I think I do, people will follow. If they like you and the content they will buy when the time is right. Great motivational video Lee!!

Hi Lee

To be very honest with you, I am alone in my flat on a very wet Saturday afternoon. The fact that I am suffering with flu does not help matters.

I would just like to say that your short video has cheered me up no end, as I have been in selling all my working life and totally agree with your philosophy of winning peoples trust first.

I will get in touch with you again shortly.

Many thanks

Hi Lee.

Been “following” you since your debut and on the MST site. You hit a great point today and one that new marketers are truly fearful of!

I have been studying your techniques (thanks for those videos for MST folks) and am trying to implement what you’re teaching. Still in the implementation stage, so don’t know what the results will be yet, but am confident that they will follow.

Keep up the great work. You do an awesome job being a real person (not some hyped-up “guru”) and that, I believe, makes people realize that they can make money online, too.

Thanks again!

Hi Lee,

I wanted to thank you for that post and this video. That post on the warrior forum has really inspired me. I even printed it out. :-)

I urge everyone reading this to read that post and print it out! It’s that business-life changing. On one side you have the gurus telling you the money is in the list. On the other side are those like Lee telling people the money is in the content.

Matt Cutts of Google is very clear, content is king. So even though you might build a huge list but you offer nothing but the latest hyped up product promotions your list will turn on you.

Follow the Lee McIntyre business model of helping people and if you think you’re giving away too much information, give out more!

Thanks Lee!

P.S. I hope your football team won the match.

Thanks to everyone for the super comments!

I’m actually a bit under the weather today, and coming down with a bit of a cold, so these comments have given me a real boost. :)

I do really believe in this stuff, and I hope that comes through on the videos.

If you want to sell more, then first give good stuff away for free, and the rest becomes SO much easier.

And you can see this in any niche you look at too…

In the education niche there is an authority teaching forum in the UK, and in the sub forum where I participated there was one women who everyone loved.

She gave great advice, and handed out freebies left, right, and center. I simply couldn’t compete, and the more I tried to sell the worse I did!

It was actually extremely furstrating, but the people in this niche LOVED this women and so whenever she did release anything for sale a massive percentage her target market were already pre sold.

I learned then the power of building trust through the strength of your content and contribution, and this has had a massive impact on my business.

A really good example is Colm on the Standing Start Profits forums. He helped people for months, with no expecatation of anything in return, and then when he released his first book he sold hundreds because people trusted him and liked him.

This stuff really does work. You’ll have more fun, you’ll feel better about yourself, and if you do it right you’ll make more money too!

I’m delighted everyone liked the video and keep those comments coming…..

Hi Lee! (et al). Great video…I agree with your principles. I try to provide great value for free with my Yard Salers newsletters and my bidbits blog. Then people will hopefully see I have credibility and knowledge, and they may choose to buy one of my ebooks down the line. I try to make my ebooks and special reports valuable, so they bring much more in use value to the reader than the cost of the product.

Thx again Lee..I have read your emails but this is the first time I have heard one of your videos.

Free content is king, but you’ve got to make sure it’s useful. I’ve been trying to hammer that point home to my subscribers for the last few months relentlessly – and it seems to be sinking in. Lee, you’re absolutely right about how to build trust in a very cynical market. Giving to get is an age old sales concept and it’s refreshing to see IM’ers finally “getting it”.

Know, Like, and Trust are the key ingredients to making an affirmative buying decision. The easiest way to build that trust is by giving valuable, quality content, like Lee suggests. It doesn’t matter if it’s IM, MLM, direct sales, or any other niche you’re in. Quality content increases trust and credibility. Give and get.

It really is as simple as that.
Awesome job!

Excellent video and post Lee, thanks so much for sharing it. I’m really going to take the information you’ve shared and start thinking about how I can provide nothing but the highest value in all the content I give to my list and visitors.
