The Power of Goal Setting For 2008

by Lee McIntyre on December 18, 2007

I’ve had a brilliant year in 2007, and I wouldn’t have enjoyed the success I have if I hadn’t set firm goals at the start of the year.

There have been times over the last few months when everything has seemed so difficult, but my goals have kept me on track, and helped to keep me motivated during the difficult times too.

I really believe in the power of setting attainable goals which is why I want YOU to share your targets for the year in the comments below.

What do you want to achieve in 2008? Where do you hope to be by the end of the year?

I’d love to hear what YOU want to achieve in the coming year, and hopefully writing it down will help keep you on track towards achieving it too.

Post your 2008 goals below now and I can’t wait to hear what you have planned…

I’d like to get many new subscribers for my new marketing tips website, which is also like a cheat sheet for myself (what I’ve learned about IM).

Hi Oliver – that’s a good goal to have and the money really is in the list.

Do you have an idea of how many subscribers you want to gain, and in what time scale?

Hi Graham – having seen some of your work up close recently I’m sure that you have every chance of hitting your targets.

You really do have every chance and I have my fingers crossed for you!

Keep the comments coming everyone as I’d really love to hear what everyone wants to achieve over the coming months….

hello lee,
2008 is not even hear yet-although it seems so far away for me. i want to pass up my mothers feedback totals their like 150+?(unknown total but its growing daily) my ability to achieve things of this nature are not record keeping stats, although my passion is “success”.9 years ago i was gifted with my daughter Morgan Lynn @ the same time was given a start over point in my life. I must tell you my “journey” here allows no failure! Why? my mother has my morgan and its been almost 9months since ive seen my daughter(last time was even longer)and I WANT MY DAUGHTER home where she belongs! But until i can proove to my mother that i can successfully start and operate my own (what-ever)Online Business by myself-she will and does have the funds to see that this has not a hope in H??? of ever becoming a reality to me.
anyways you and john thornhill , and tim knox are by far the best marketing experts ive seen, and i am dedicated to following around like a puppy…
yours and johns feedback scores surpassed my mom looooong time ago! i can not thank you enough for all your priceless yet inspirational EVERYTHING that you’ve blessed me with in general! i know you probably hear this kind of stuff all the time so ill try not to over-do-it tooo much-ok!

well i hope you have a very blessed day – today and every day 2 come. i pray today and every day “God grant me the serenity to accept the things i can not change, the courage to change the things i can,and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen
God Bless you and yours-from me and mine!

I’d like to make a 6 figure salary online and I want to help 10,000 people in their lives in some way. These 2 things are complementary of course.

I know this can be done. I’m just getting started and I can’t wait to see how it all shakes down in 2008.

Well, as many subscriber as possible. I think the real questions is how to get them. :) What do you think is the best way to get subscriber for marketing lists?

7 Lee McIntyre December 18, 2007 at 10:48 pm

Hi Oliver

Good question!

My own IM model is based around creating high quality information products and then recruiting JV partners to sell them.

I personally enjoy the act of product creation so this method really works for me.

If you take Mailing Lists Unleashed for example…

Because the product was so good, and because other marketers could promote to their lists at a semi exclusive discount, many JV partners wanted to promote.

This meant I could sell hundreds, and of course each customer joined my list.

Because the content highly regarded, and the price point so low, people who bought were delighted with what they received and this helped build a relationship with them.

My list is now approaching 3,500 in less than 6 months and this has been achieved almost exclusively through the model outlined below.

1) Create low priced but high quality info products
2) Recruit JV partners to sell these products

Product creation and then joint ventures is the most effective way I know to get really high quality subscribers onto your list.

I hope that helps, but feel free to ask away if it doesn’t!

Thanks Lee! :)

PS: Could you summarize in one sentence what the big fat eBay lie is? :) (I’m an eBay powerseller)

9 Lee McIntyre December 18, 2007 at 11:47 pm

Hi Oliver

The Big Fat eBay Lie is a free book I created.

The book talks about the fact that many people say it’s not possible to make money selling on eBay due to high competition and low profit margins, but I contend that it is possible but only if you view eBay as part of the marketing process, and not the end it itself.

You can download the book for free below….

I hope this helps :)

Keep the comments coming everyone….

My goal is to KEEP GOING! I have, just in the past couple weeks, really been building up some momentum (so much so that I think I am freaking out my husband! :o ).

I want to launch a new membership site and get in on a JV giveaway to grow the subscriber list, but also use the techniques I have learned from another marketer to grow my list.

I’d like to be making a good $5K per month by the year’s end. Our family is looking at moving to a warmer place and possibly a different country with a more stable economy. We’ll need some consistent internet income streams to make it happen.

I’m really taking to heart what you teach Lee. You are the living proof so many of us look for.

Have a blessed Christmas!

11 Vern December 20, 2007 at 4:10 am

Hi Lee,

First off – a really (early) Merry Christmas to you. Before I get into the goals that I have drafted out in my mind I’d like to take stock of what happened for the past 2 years.

I’ve practically used up almost all that time dabbling into many different programs and ebooks without being able to earn a real living.

2008 will be different in that my goal is this:

1. to grow my list to about 5000 in total (in that if only 500 are responsive it would be great)

2. To have 3 high quality IM products created and with the help of top marketers (like yourself , Lee :) and available to the masses at a ridiculously low price.

3. be true to myself, my family in terms of managing my work time and family time – I’ve been treating this business like a hobby for far too long.

4. develop more relationships online with other honest marketers in order to learn from them and at the same time apply it to my marketing style. (its about networking right, Lee?)

5. earn a decent/stable $4000 monthly for a living – and then be able to go full-time. If i were to shoot for the stars let it be beginning 2009 or end 2008 – God Help Me. ;)

Cheers,
Vern

12 Net Marketing Toolbox December 20, 2007 at 12:13 pm

Hi Lee

I’d like to say a hearty “thank you” for the info you provide and the manner in which you do so! Extremely refreshing!

My Internet Marketing goals for 2008? Strange you did this post… I was actually working on a similar one for my blog at the same time… Seriously :)

In summary, my goals for 2008 are:
1. Stop seeking out information about Internet Marketing from all and sundry. Get a mentor or two.
2. Reduce the number of lists I am subscribed to, to cut back on information overload.
3. Start taking some action with what I’m doing.
4. Build my lists.
5. Finish those projects I started ages ago.
6. Update some of my older established sites to bring them into this century… literally!
7. Commit time to regularly update and improve my sites.
8. Monetize my sites better – include at least 3 methods on every page.
9. Develop an Internet Marketing strategy I can actively pursue, and finally,
10. work with others to provide better newbie learning materials and promotional opportunities.

With your help, I’m already well on my way to doing quite a few of these.

Please check out my more complete new year’s “revolutions” here.

Cheers
Stephen Spry

Hi Lee!

My goal for the new year is to double my online income in 2008. For the first part of 2007 I was working a full time job and then I was just getting my business going so I don’t think doubling my income is an unreasonable goal at all.

I also have plans to release some great information products, build a bigger team of VAs that work with my business and to get past 50 subscribes to my blog feed, lol.

So, will you be posting YOUR goals? :)

Angela

I want to actually get some “income streams” up instead of studying and buying products… and reading that you’re a newbie gives this newbie some motivation!

15 Maher Saleh January 4, 2008 at 5:11 pm

Well the most important thing for me to achieve in 2008 is reaching a stable 100$ a month income
