Personally I didn’t so much hit my threshold as come to the realization that I was lacking in fundamental business and marketing skills which were causing me to spin my wheels.

I like to think I’m a smart guy but this simply wasn’t enough. You can be smart and still be applying yourself in completely the wrong areas.

I had to hold my hands up and say (not “I quit” but) “I’m doing this all wrong – I need to go back to the drawing board.”

I wound down my online marketing and have spent the majority of my time reading and learning about fundamental principals of business and how to apply them practically.

I approach all of this now in the same way as if I was starting an offline “real world” business.

Like you said Lee, I too would urge people to stop looking for the “tricks” – those magic bullets, and focus on building a real business to be proud of.
